Talk about feeling like garbage...today sure wasn't one of the better training days. I planned on getting up and getting on the trainer this morning. Didn't happen. Far too tired and I knew it was going to be a long day at work and that's what pays the bills so I'd better be on my game there. I got out of work pretty late and headed over to the pool for my workout which was a feat in itself just getting myself there.

Nothing really felt good. I'm hoping tomorrow will be a better day. I don't have a hard day planned. I'd like to get to the gym at lunch but I have meetings packed right around that time so that's a bummer. I'll have to just suck it up and do my evening swim.

Hey Steve!
Don't worry about feeling like poo when you start real multisport training, but do make sure you are planning your hard/easy days ahead of time, instead of letting them plan you!
And speaking of plans, are you actually doing the TriMag plan? Or will you jump on it when your swim season ends? Cuz it doesn't look anything like what I'm looking at in the magazine...
For myself, I ended the pre-season with a 2.5 hour bike ride on Sunday, with some hard parts, and some smaller hills. It was windy and warm, and I got some sunburn, which is now a tan.
Monday was a day off-always a good way to start a race training schedule!
For Tuesday, I tried to follow the moderate training plan from the mag, so I went for a one hour bike. WUed 15:00, did 12:00 of SL and spin drills, then found a decent hill, and did the 6x:30push/2:00 recover that was prescribed. The push was climbing, out of saddle, in a gear that would make the climb fast. It got tough after #2, then really tough after #4. After I was done with that I biked home, about the same 15:00 that got me there, for a total of 1 hour.
Later in the day I did the swim workout, which only specified 6x25 fast, with 20 sec rest. I surrounded it with 600wu, 6x75 w paddles (1-3@1:10, 4-6@1:05), 6x50@1:00 (12.5fast, 12.5ez, 25dr),
main set (held just under 15, so I did them on :35), and that was it. 1500 in 30:00.
None of this seems like much, but I was quite tired last night, and slept 9 1/2 hours!
I'm still not really done trying to figure out how long my workouts are going to be, and therefor how many weekly hours I'll be aiming for, but this week will probably be in the neighborhood of ten hours.
And I sure as hell won't be writing this much every day-it will probably take the form of short hand, unless there is something particularly good or bad to report.
Until then-train hard, rest harder!
Oh, I forgot to mention. The avg speed on the bike was of course slow, around 15.1mph, because of the large percentage of wu/wd and recovery. The avg HR was also low, 131. The max HR was decent though, hitting about 168 just after the end of each little climb. That's a little over my LT, although I haven't actually tested my LT in a few years. I will probably retest all that stuff in a couple of weeks.
Okay!
Matt
Thanks for the comments Matt. You should now have the ability to post to this blog.
I do want to start following the guide in the magazine but until coaching ends (tomorrow night!!!) I'm kind of stuck grabbing what ever activity I can with a focus on trying to keep my swim workouts IM focused rather than triathlon focused because I'll always be able to do the swims without feeling them, and I need to try and keep my breaststroke under 2:10 for one last year since there's a youngster in there with a 2:02! But after tomorrow I should be able to get some better structure to my training and follow the guide with only minor adjustments.
